Sporadic Updates
7/5/08
Yeah. Yeah. i know I said I'd be better and I had and still have every
intention. But I still have some other work to finish up. I agreed to
do a stand alone WitchHound story for my friend Steve Kanaras over at
Free Lunch Comics and still have to finish it up. The first part showed
up in a comic called "Only in Whispers," which is available over at the
Free Lunch Comics website: www.freelunchcomics.com/Bigger/onlyinwhispers.htm
and I'm working on the secod part now. I've included shots of the first
page of part 1 and the first page of part 2 so you know I'm not
pulling your leg. My family and work situation are unchanged so I'm
forced to work painfully slow, but don't worry, loyal readers will be
rewarded with a full story eventually and then, hopefully, a print
version they can pick up for their very own. I'll try and keep readers
posted here on the Home page so they know when they can expect a new
episode and if you sign the address book I'll add your name to a
mailing list and e-mail you whenever I update so you know when to look.

Mission Statement
5/4/8
So,I've been doing this site for
about 2
years now and in all honesty I only know of maybe 10 people that ever
actually come to this page (mostly people I'm related to - and if
you're not one of them, shame on you for not clicking on the "Write Me
a Letter" button down and to the left of these ramblings). For those
10, and anyone else who cares to visit , I wanted to advise you of a
change.
My lovely wife and I frequently
google "WickedSmash" and the titles of all my comics, to see if anyone
is
saying anything about them. For the most part no one is, but
occasionally we come across some comments (and, not to be unfair, a few
people have clicked the "Write Me a Letter" button.) Most of them are
very positive but, by and large, they have the same criticism. The
updates are
too few and too far between to keep a readers interest. Sad to say, I
have
to agree.
So time for a change!
The WitchHound comic is the
only one of the comics I'm currently producing that is brand new. The Grace Brothers is a re-vamp of
a comic I did in college (called Urban Paranoia) and I have
maybe a hundred of them written and most of those drawn (the characters
look a bit different but the gags are exactly the same). They still
need to be inked but other than that, they're ready to go. I'm also
bringing back The Super-Hip,
Gnarly, Rad Catz, as they were originally called when they
appeared in the Virginia Tech paper. I had put them aside but I got a
great e-mail from a Va Tech alum who told me he was a fan back in the
day and had been keeping an eye out for the re-appearance of the Cats.
When you get a message like that, how can you not respond. So if
you become a fan of the Cats, you can thank John Roundy for giving me
the nudge I needed.
My biggest problem with
production is the art. I want to update everything to my current
ability level rather than just publishing things the way they used to
look and that takes time, more time than I have. So I'm going to get
over myself and just show you the work. If I ever get the impression
that it would be worth putting this stuff in print, maybe I'll redo the
art then. Until that becomes an issue, I'll just give it to you as is.
For you
WitchHound
fans
I'm
going to concentrate on getting pages out rather than making them look
the best they can. I go back and look at the early pages and I feel
like they're ok, but I didn't really know what the characters looked
like until well in, so I'm not particularly happy with them. For this
reason, I'm going to do new art for any print versions that may come
out (it'll give people an excuse to buy them also since the story is
pretty much free, right?) and that'll allow me to concentrate on
getting to the story. So don't be offended if you see the same picture
being used more than once or the art not being exactly right, just keep
reading (zombies are coming, so don't go anywhere). And let me
know what you think. I don't have an editor, although I sorely need
one, so if you think something is too wordy, or there's a plot flaw,
or, heaven forbid, a mis-spelled word, for
God's sake , let me know. I won't promise that I'll change it
(it may be there for a reason) but I'll take all serious comments
under consideration. |
